The challenge
Public agencies communicate with everyone, from a benefits applicant at a service window to residents at a public hearing. Language access is a legal obligation, but it is also the difference between a program that reaches its community and one that does not.
Agencies also face procurement rules, audit trails, and accessibility mandates that private buyers rarely think about. You need a vendor that already holds the right certifications, understands public-sector documentation, and can scale from a single appointment to a statewide notice.

How we help
Founded in 2010, Focus Interpreting serves public agencies including the County of Los Angeles, San Bernardino County, the California Department of Education, the California Highway Patrol, the California Department of Water Resources, the California Employment Development Department, the State Water Board, and the Orange County Transportation Authority.
Our interpreters are certified in accordance with national standards, U.S.-based, and trained in both consecutive and simultaneous modes, with conference equipment and staff available for public meetings and large events. Phone and video interpreting cover walk-in traffic and hotlines 24/7 in more than 120 languages.
For written material, we translate vital documents, notices, and outreach campaigns, transcribe hearings and investigative interviews, and remediate PDFs so they meet accessibility standards.

Compliance
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and Executive Order 13166 require agencies that receive federal funding to provide meaningful access to people with limited English proficiency, usually documented in a language access plan that covers interpreters and translated vital documents. In California, the Dymally-Alatorre Bilingual Services Act adds state-level obligations for agencies serving substantial non-English-speaking populations.
Title II of the ADA requires effective communication with people with disabilities, including qualified sign language interpreters, and Section 508 requires that electronic documents and web content be accessible. Our ASL network, VRI platform, and ADA remediation service support each of these requirements.
We keep records of interpreter assignments and translation certifications so you can document compliance during audits and public-records requests.

Procurement
Focus Interpreting is a Veteran-Owned Small Business (CVE verified), a certified Minority Business Enterprise, and an NMSDC-certified minority supplier. We hold a California Multiple Award Schedules (CMAS) contract and a California DGS micro business certification, which allow many state and local agencies to purchase without a full competitive bid.
Our NAICS, UNSPSC, CAGE, and DUNS identifiers are published on our company page, and a capabilities statement is available on request for vendor registration and diversity reporting.
